Sarcoidosis Eye - Sarcoidosis Alternative Treatment


As regular visitors to this site will probably be aware, sarcoidosis can attack any organ of the body, so it follows that the eyes do not escape the disease.

Sarcoidosis eye appears in 25-50% of sufferers, with an even higher rate in affected children. All parts of the eye can be affected- the eyelid membranes, cornea, lens or retina. Following a great deal of research, it is clear that twice as many members of the black population had some form of sarcoidosis eye involvement than was found amongst the white population.

At first, sarcoidosis eye symptoms usually appear as reddening or watery eyes, with some sufferers complaining of blurred vision or sensitivity to sunlight. In the very worst cases, glaucoma, cataracts and blindness may be the result.

A condition called Uveitis is the most serious threat to patients. This is inflammation of the blood rich membrane of the eye, the Uvea. In Uveitis, the eye becomes very sticky after white blood cells move to the front of the eye. Once sticky, the iris and lens may very well stick together, resulting in increased eye pressure.

Uveitis can be classed as:

1. Anterior Uveitis – the front of the orbit.

2. Posterior Uveitis – the back of the eye

3. Conjunctivitis – inflammation of the conjunctiva.
