Sarcoidosis Diet-What Type Of Diet Should Be Followed For Sarcoidosis?
Eat More
- Fruits and Vegetables. Eating colourful foods - red, yellow, orange and green, provide vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, fibre and antioxidants that reduce inflammation.
- Healthy Fats. This includes omega-3 oils found in fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, and in foods such as avocados, extra virgin olive oil, nuts and seeds.
- Fibre. Promoting proper bowel movements leads to a healthier environment for healthy bacteria to flourish in the gut and aid the overall detoxification process. Daily flax seeds are a good option.
- Organic Meat. Eating moderate amounts of organically produced meat is likely to contain more of the anti-inflammatory essentials.
-Spices and Herbs. Garlic, ginger and turmeric are good choices.
Eliminate/Eat Less
-Trans or Hydrogenated Fats
-Refined Oils. Tend to be high in omega-6, which converts to inflammatory arachadonic acid
-Processed Foods.
-Red Meat. Avoid if possible or ensure meat is organic.
-Food Allergens. Milk products, eggs, gluten and peanuts can cause inflammatory reactions.
-Artificial Sweeteners and Preservatives.
It is important to understand that inflammatory reaction in itself is not a bad thing, because the body needs it to fight off infection and to help repair muscular or tissue damage. However problems arise when inflammation becomes chronic or long term. Far and away the best approach is to focus on prevention by including the above foods in the diet on a regular basis. Exercise, managing stress and proper hydration are also key elements to keeping the body well-tuned, saving inflammation for when it is really required!
